Lakewood Township has announced the continuation of its free gas program for emergency and volunteer organizations. While Chaveirim, Hatzolah, LCSW (Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch), and search and rescue teams remain on the list of beneficiaries, the glaring omission of Chavivim and Hatzolas Nefashos has left residents questioning the township’s priorities.
Chavivim and Hatzolas Nefashos, both known for their critical and selfless contributions during emergencies, have been excluded without explanation, fueling frustration among community members. “It’s unacceptable,” said one resident. “These organizations have saved countless lives. They deserve the same support as anyone else on that list.”
The program, long viewed as a cornerstone of community support, was designed to alleviate financial pressures on volunteer groups who rely on donations and private funding. While officials emphasized their commitment to aiding select organizations, critics argue the exclusions send a troubling message about fairness and recognition.
“This decision raises serious concerns about how resources are allocated and who gets to decide what ‘essential’ means,” said a local leader. “Chavivim and Hatzolas Nefashos have been pillars of support for our community in critical moments. Why are they being sidelined now?”
As frustration builds among residents, some fear the decision reflects a deeper disconnect between the township and the organizations that serve on the front lines. Community advocates are calling for fairness and equity in how support is distributed, urging township officials to rethink their priorities and ensure no group is left out.
Whether the program will be expanded or remain unchanged, the decision has left many questioning the township’s commitment to truly supporting all who dedicate themselves to serving the community.

Hatzalah bills insurance as well. How is free gas legal?
Is there a transparent application process?
They aren’t part of lakewood OEM, that’s why they don’t gas.
Curious why Hatzala canvases the community for money when
A)they bill insurance for transports B)they get free gas and C) they came up with 1.5 million dollars to upgrade their radio system doesn’t seem that they have any financial problems b’h they may have other issues but financing doesn’t seem to be one of them
The Taxpayers shouldn't be paying for any of this gas. It's guaranteed to be abused, and they're stealing from every person who pays property taxes here.
Can the Township actually find ways to cut their spending of Lakewood residents hard earned money???
Or is this a secret Mitzvah to increase Township spending annually and bill us, the Lakewood taxpayer suckers?
Drain the Lakewood swamp, their vacuuming the cash right out of our pockets. 💩💩💩
All the so called self appointed ASSkonim voted in or otherwise who have slipped all the developments with illegal basements along route 9 corridor and any other neighborhood ruins by over building ,will have to answer Upstairs after 120 (don’t laugh we all get their eventually some of us quicker then others) as how much they personally profited making the whole town a parking lot sitting in traffic at certain times of the day causing stress ,Agmas nefesh and hundreds of hours of lost time accumatively each and every day
Nuf said, need I say more?
Its called being part of OEM, obviously the township doesn't see the need to have additional resources as part of the OEM.
