AFTER EXPOSURE ON FAA, LAKEWOOD ZONING BOARD MEMBERS AGREE TO RECUSE THEMSELVES FROM CELL TOWER APPLICATION

As previously reported here on FAA News, https://www.faanews.com/2022/06/zoning-board-members-should-recuse.html, Lakewood Township Zoning Board Member Meir Gelly who is also a board member of BMG, and Lakewood Township Zoning Board Member Moish Glieberman who is also an employee of BMG, sat on the Zoning Board last month for its initial hearing for a a permanent Verizon Wireless communication tower on the Georgian Court University property.

BMG is currently under contract to purchase 42 acres of land from Georgian Court University to expand the yeshiva campus with a major housing department and a child care center.

There is currently an application pending before the Zoning Board to install a permanent Verizon Wireless communication tower on the Georgian Court University, in proximity to BMG's proposed expansion.

The entire Georgian Court University, including BMG's proposed expansion, is currently on one single lot. As such, we noted that it was inappropriate for Mr. Glieberman and Mr. Gelley to sit on the Zoning Board for this cell tower application.

We are happy to report that Mr. Glieberman and Mr. Gelley did the right thing tonight and recused themselves from the application!

Many neighbors came out in opposition to the application, which will be continued at the Board's meeting in July.

Rabbi Yaakov Forcheimer, a senior posek in Lakewood, as well as Rabbi Mordechai Betzalel Klein, Satmar Dayan of Lakewood, signed strong letters in opposition to another cell tower application on top of the senior citizen housing building on Clifton Avenue and 5th Street. The Zoning Board already approved that application. As previously reported here on FAA News (https://www.faanews.com/2022/05/lakewood-zoning-board-sued-after.html), the neighbors are now suing the Board for their approval.
