7 MONTHS IN LAKEWOOD - OVER 3,000 CRASHES, 73 PEDESTRIAN STRUCK, 6 FATALITIES

According to documents obtained by FAA News, the Lakewood Police Department has responded to over 3,000 motor vehicle crashes this year from January 1 through July 31.


Of these crashes, 73 involved pedestrians struck by vehicles and 6 involved fatalities.


That is more than 2 pedestrians struck by vehicles each week, and approximately 1 fatality every 5 weeks.


To bring these numbers into perspective, according to the state records, there have been a total of 418 traffic fatalities across all 564 municipalities in New Jersey since January 1 this year. This equals less than 1 fatality per municipality for all 7 months this year.

To bring these numbers into perspective, according to the state records, in 2019 and 2020 about 5% of all births in NJ were to mother residing in Lakewood.
