Work has been underway on the installation of a new traffic signal at the the intersection of West County Line Road and Teaberry Court, and the traffic signal masts and poles were just installed.
The project includes some curb and sidewalk work, but no major road widening or lane re-configuration. Once activated, the traffic signal will permit lead traffic for eastbound left-turning vehicles. During the busy daytime hours, this green left-turning arrow will activate for 10-13 seconds.
In 2016, a petition launched by the residents of the area requesting this traffic signal received 500 signatures.
After several nudges, the Ocean County Engineering Department approved the traffic signal request and got to work designing the project.
It was bid out last September, and on October 20, 2021, the Ocean County Board of Commissioners formally awarded the contract for this new traffic signal to J.C. Contracting, Inc. of Rahway, NJ for $267,521.60. This was the lowest bid among several bids received for this contract.
The Ocean County Engineering Department then worked on finalizing right-of-way acquisition.
In March 2022, in preparation for this new signal, Lakewood's Township Committee adopted a No Stopping or Standing ordinance, along the east side of Teaberry Court from the northerly curb line of County Line Road to a point 118 feet north along the easterly curb line of Teaberry Court, and along the west side of Teaberry Court, from the northerly curb line of County Line Road to a point 95 feet north along the westerly curb line of Teaberry Court. This curb of this area has been yellow painted as well.
On May 12, 2022, the Township Committee formalized an agreement with the county that the Township will assume all costs associated with the electrical current to be provided for this new traffic signal.
The new traffic signal is likely to be activated in the coming few months, once JCP&L connects the electric drop.
Improving County Line Road is a continuing project for the county’s engineering department.
As previously reported here on FAA News, Ocean County is nearing completion of a $1,625,202.67 project to widen the County Line Road / Brook Road intersection with left turning lanes, associated drainage improvements, and improved accomodations for pedestrians crossing this intersection.
The County is currently in the right-of-way acquisition stages for an intersection realignment and new traffic signal project at County Line Road and Brookwood Parkway.
They are in the process of planning improvements to the intersections of Ridge Avenue and Joe Parker as well. The Ocean County Board of Commissioners recently approved funding for that upcoming project, however the project has not yet gone out to bid.
