The Lakewood Police Department is planning to purchase 2 Rapid Deploy Mobile Trailer ALPR Camera Systems, FAA News has learned.
Mobile trailer camera systems provide police departments with "extra eyes on the ground", providing surveillance in high crime areas or public safety during major events, holiday periods or in parking lots. They can easily be moved to new locations as surveillance needs change.
Currently, only the Ocean County Sheriff's Office has mobile trailer camera systems. This appears to be the first time that Lakewood Township will acquire their own mobile trailer camera systems.
At their regular monthly meeting tonight, the Township Committee is expected to authorize the purchase of the 2 mobile trailer camera systems from Packetalk of Lyndhurst, New Jersey at the cost of $106,000.
In recent years, the Lakewood Police Department has been "growing their own" as opposed to only relying on mutual aid from nearby agencies, such as the addition of the K9 units and the Strategic Response Unit.
