The Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority which provides sewer and water service to the eastern portion of the Township, is set to increase rates by nearly 38%.
The increase will occur in increments over a number of years.
The MUA board is set this Tuesday morning to approve annual increases to water and sewer as follows:
Water rate
1. Beginning January 1, 2024 residential, commercial, and industrial water rates will be increased by 10.5%
2. Beginning January 1, 2025 residential, commercial and industrial water rates will be increased by an additional 9.5%
3. Beginning January 1, 2026 residential, commercial, and industrial water rates will be increased by an additional 5.0%
4. Beginning January 1, 2027 residential, commercial, and industrial water rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
5. Beginning January 1, 2028 residential, commercial, and industrial water rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
6. Beginning January 1, 2029 residential, commercial, and industrial water rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
7. Beginning January 1, 2030 residential, commercial, and industrial water rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
8. Beginning January 1, 2031 residential, commercial, and industrial water rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
Sewer rate
1. Beginning January 1, 2024 residential, commercial, and industrial sewer rates will be increased by 10.5%
2. Beginning January 1, 2025 residential, commercial and industrial sewer rates will be increased by an additional 7.5%
3. Beginning January 1, 2026 residential, commercial, and industrial sewer rates will be increased by an additional 5.0%
4. Beginning January 1, 2027 residential, commercial, and industrial sewer rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
5. Beginning January 1, 2028 residential, commercial, and industrial sewer rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
6. Beginning January 1, 2029 residential, commercial, and industrial sewer rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
7. Beginning January 1, 2030 residential, commercial, and industrial sewer rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
8. Beginning January 1, 2031 residential, commercial, and industrial sewer rates will be increased by an additional 2.5%
These total a 35.5% increase for sewer and a 37.5% increase for water.
If your average monthly bill is $100, the increases will total an additional $43 a month.
Public comment is invited. The meeting will take place at the office of the Lakewood Township Municipal Utilities Authority at 390 New Hampshire Avenue at 10:00am.

Between the Planing board and running the MUA, Justin F. is overdue for retirement. He's obviously not looking out for the average taxpayer. Just part of the old swamp machine. Even he's not wanting to stick around for the consequences of the mess that he's helped create in this town, and he ran off to Jackson.

What a chutzpah! The MUA just raised our rates by 15% last year and now they want another 38% ?!?!

Plus, most of these morons don't even live in the MUA territory!!
