MONDAY: LEGAL HOLIDAY, WHAT'S OPEN & WHAT'S CLOSED




This Monday, January 15, coincides with Martin Luther King Day, a state and federal holiday to honor the activist and minister, Martin Luther King Jr., who is most famous for delivering his “I Have A Dream” speech during the 1963 March on Washington.


Township offices will be closed. In Lakewood, there will be no trash pickup. Everyone's pickup schedule this week will move one day ahead. There will be no bulk pickup this week.


All New Jersey state offices, including courts and Motor Vehicle Commission offices will be closed.


United States Postal Service offices will be closed. There will be no mail delivered.


FedEx will deliver mail, however. FedEx Express and FedEx Ground Economy will be on a modified service schedule.


UPS will not make deliveries with the exception of UPS Express Critical.


The vast majority of banks will be closed.


All big-box retailers, malls and major shopping centers, should be open.


NJ Transit will operate on a weekday, Saturday or holiday schedule depending on your route. For NJ Transit, riders should use NJ Transit’s online trip planner to double-check arrival and departure times.


PATH will operate on a modified Saturday schedule with supplemental service throughout the morning commute.


SEPTA subways, trolleys, the Norristown High Speed Line and the Regional Rail will operate on a regular weekday schedule. However, city buses will run on an alternative schedule, and there will be no school service.


The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq trading, and bond markets will be closed.
