NJ STATE BUDGET: WHAT'S IN IT FOR LAKEWOOD?


The New Jersey State Legislature is set today, Friday, to adopt the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget.


The bill (A4700 / S2025) appropriates $56,635,803,000 in State funds and $27,501,993,844 in federal funds.


So, what's in it for good 'ol us?


▪︎ Garden State Parkway Interchange 83 Improvements - $3,200,000 in federal funds (Read more about this project here on FAA News)


• Township of Lakewood; Public Health and Safety - $7,000,000


• ShoreTown Ballpark Improvements - $4,200,000


• Jackson School District, Infrastructure Improvements - $2,500,000


• Beth Medrash Govoha, Security Needs and Anti-terrorism - $2,000,000


• Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce, Networking Events - $50,000


• Federal Nonprofit Security Grant Program; State - $2,725,000


• UASI Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) - $27,521,000


• New Jersey Nonprofit Security Grant Program (P.L.2021, c.439) - $10,000,000


Nonpublic School Aid - $143,129,000 (total)


• Nonpublic Textbook Aid - $8,243,000


• Nonpublic Handicapped Aid - $28,240,000

Per pupil amounts for the 2024-2025 school year shall be: $1,326.17 for an initial evaluation or reevaluation for examination and classification; $380 for an annual review for examination and classification; $930 for speech correction; and $826 for supplementary instruction services


• Nonpublic Auxiliary Services Aid - $46,149,000

Per pupil amount of Nonpublic Auxiliary Services Aid shall equal $1,070.33 and the per pupil amount for providing the equivalent service to children of limited English-speaking ability shall be $1,090.00.


• Nonpublic Auxiliary/Handicapped Transportation Aid - $2,469,000

Receipts from nonpublic schools handicapped and auxiliary recoveries are appropriated for the payment of additional aid, subject to the approval of the Director of the Division of Budget and Accounting.


• Nonpublic Nursing Services Aid - $20,078,000

The rate per pupil shall be $135.


• Nonpublic Security Aid - $30,550,000

The rate per pupil shall be $205, for security services, equipment, or technology to ensure a safe and secure school environment for nonpublic school students.


• Nonpublic Technology Initiative - $7,400,000.

The rate per pupil shall be $49.


• Nonpublic Schools Other Recoveries - $5,000,000


• Nonpublic Schools Transportation Aid - The rate per pupil shall be a maximum of $1,185.


• The unexpended balance at the end of the preceding fiscal year in the Nonpublic STEM Reimbursement Program account is appropriated for the same purpose.


• Hatzolah of Linden, ambulance acquisition for community service continuity - $25,000


• Friendship Circle of New Jersey, LifeTown, Livingston - $500,000


• Rabbinical College of America/Chabad of New Jersey, mental health initiative to provide mental health training and workshops to promote mental health awareness - $250,000


• Jewish Federation of New Jersey, Community Security Initiatives - $1,500,000


• Jewish Federation of Greater Metro West, Community-Based Anti-Hate Initiative - $20,000


• Jewish Family Service of Central NJ, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program from Union County - $25,000


• Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County, Capital Improvements - $250,000


• Holocaust Survivor Assistance Program, Samost Jewish Family and Children's Services Southern NJ - $650,000


• Jewish Federation of New Jersey, Meals on Wheels Program - $500,000


• Jewish Community Housing Corporation of Metropolitan New Jersey, Assisted Living Services to Low-Income Seniors - $250,000


• New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education - $255,000


• New Jersey Israel Commission - $350,000


• Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey Community Health Center, LGBTQ - $1,000,000


• New Jersey Pride Chamber of Commerce - $150,000


• Garden State Equality - $428,000

Blue claws should be the smallest. It is a drain on a taxpayer base and brings in zero revenue.
