Lakewood residents are celebrating a swift and decisive victory after developers abruptly withdrew their application for a major subdivision project - just moments after learning the neighbors had retained legal counsel. What could have been a lengthy battle ended almost instantly, reinforcing the power of community action.
Lakewood Township's Planning Board was scheduled this Tuesday night to consider Application # SD-2564, submitted by Congregation Meshech Chochma.
The Preliminary and Final Major Subdivision & Major Site Plan proposed extending Rose Place from the Buttell Avenue intersection and constructing two duplex structures on four zero lot line properties, a single-family residence, a school tract, and a private road, all on a 3.3381-acre site off Williams Street.
Neighbors of the proposed project were deeply concerned over the width of the planned roadway extension as well as the lack of a proper turnaround for the proposed road extension.
Determined to fight back, the neighbors retained Teaneck Attorney Jan Meyer to represent their vehement opposition to the application.
Amazingly, as soon as the developers learned of this hiring, they withdrew their pending application!
The neighbors couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Their swift and strategic decision to bring in legal representation led to an immediate win, sparing them from a prolonged zoning battle. Their success serves as a testament to the power of standing together - and knowing when to call in the right attorney.
