The Township of Lakewood has just settled a civil complaint alleging that Lakewood EMS is responsible for injuries sustained by a patient during an ambulance transport, FAA News has learned.
According to the complaint filed in New Jersey Superior Court in Ocean County by Howell Attorney Richard N. Schibell Esq.:
On June 13, 2022, Lakewood EMS transported Toms River resident Janet Fures in an ambulance to Ocean Medical Center in Toms River for medical treatment for her bilateral knee pain.
While removing Fures from the rear of the ambulance, the rear step got caught on a wheel of the stretcher resulting in the stretcher falling to the right side with her still on the stretcher.
As a result of the stretcher falling to the right side with her still on it - which occurred due negligent performance - Fures suffered serious and permanent bodily injuries which has caused a significant impact on her life, and caused her to incur economic damages.
The Township, represented by Attorney Ian Goldman, has just agreed to an undisclosed out-of-court settlement.
Mere days following the settlement agreement, the Township got slammed with a new lawsuit over an EMS driver's collision with another vehicle.
Town officials have not yet released any public statements regarding either the settlement or the new lawsuit.
