In March 2021, Congregation Machine Chaim, Inc.— the nonprofit organization behind Camp Chaya Sura — signed a contract with The MYLU Team for major construction work at the camp. According to documents, $303,983.06 remains unpaid.
The MYLU Team’s managing member, Meir Tessler sought to resolve the dispute through religious arbitration, filing an application with Bais Din Tzedek for enforcement of the contract. The bais din issued three hazmanos (summonses) to camp board members Nuchem Klein and his son, Chaim Klein.
When the Kleins allegedly ignored all three summonses, the bais din issued a siruv - a public order of contempt - against “Bais Sura." A siruv can carry significant communal consequences, including public notice and potential restrictions within religious institutions, until the matter is addressed.
Both Bais Sura and Camp Chaya Sura operate under Congregation Machine Chaim, Inc.
The Kleins and Congregation Machine Chaim, Inc. have not issued a public response to the bais din’s order.
