Jan Meyer was sworn in this week as municipal court judge of Teaneck, the Jewish Link first reported.
The appointment marks the first time in decades that a Teaneck resident has been named municipal court judge.
Meyer is well known for nearly three decades of service on Teaneck’s Zoning Board of Adjustment - a position from which he has now stepped down - as well as a volunteer with the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps (TVAC).
Meyer is also very active in Lakewood's land use scene, mainly in representing neighbors' objections to various applications.
Key points in Meyer's career in Lakewood are his successes in Ocean County Superior Court and the New Jersey Appellate Division in overturning the Planning Board’s approval of a dormitory for Yeshiva Toras Chaim, his long-running representation of Spruce Street residents who are opposed to Menachem Gutfreund's development proposals, his representation of residents opposed to Kollel Kodshim's expansion, his representation of residents opposed to Kollel Kinyan Torah's child care and housing expansion.
Meyer's new judicial appointment will not affect his private practice which will remain as is, he confirmed to FAA News.

Is his appointment going to be problematic when a practicing Torah Observant Jew appears in front of him?
Of course not.
Why should it?
Don’t do anything wrong and you wont need to stand in front of him
Unless you are living under a rock you would be aware that there are instances of malicious prosecutor's. As a judge, standing up to this malady places him in a real tough position.
There are plenty of judges with conflicts. Just being Orthodox is just another conflict. This is the least of things that should matter.
