LAKEWOOD ASSEMBLYMAN RABBI AVI SCHNALL PROUDLY VOTES FOR LGBTQ PRIDE

During Avi Schnall’s 2023 campaign for New Jersey Assembly, he often promised that he was only joining the Democratic Party to have “a seat at the table,” but would remain true to his values as a “Ben Torah.” This promise even swayed R’ Simcha Bunim Cohen – heir apparent to R’ Avigdor Miller Zatzal who enthusiastically endorsed him. This endorsement was excitedly reported by Team Schnall as evidence of Schnall’s “Ben Torah,” Bonafide’s. 

However, Schnall’s promises proved to be as honest as his “tuition relief” campaign promise. 

In 2024 when the NJ Legislature voted to make June LGBTQIA Pride Month, Schnall did "not vote" on the bill. When Schnall he on the Library Bill, he famously said that “Daas Torah advised him that abstaining is the same as voting no.” 

It isn’t and it didn’t take long for Schnall himself to prove it.

In 2025, the NJ legislature again voted on making June 2025 “Pride Month.” This time Schnall voted yes, according to the NJ Legislature voting tally at time of publication of this story.

There is just no way Daas Torah endorsed this vote.

Moreover, the Bill passed overwhelmingly 60-5, so there is absolutely no way that Schnall’s vote was needed.

This isn’t about politics or a pointless vote. This is about a Frum Yid endorsing LGBTQIA pride month. And not just any Frum Yid. Schnall dances with the Roshai Yeshiva in BMG at the Simchas Bais Hashoiava. He proudly wears a hat and jacket and talks with pride about his Rosh Yeshiva – the late R’ Elya Meir Sorotzkin Zatzal. It is the height of Chilul Hashem for a person who identifies so strongly as a Ben Torah to endorse LGBTQIA nonsense. 

The Torah world was up in arms last year when Yeshiva University caved last year on Gay Clubs. How is Schnall’s vote for Pride Month any different? And why should a Ben Torah sell out his principles and vote for him? It’s not like you’re getting tuition relief or some benefit anyways.
