Now you know elections are really over!
Jackson Township's Highway Commercial Mixed-Use Zone (HCMU) zone includes the Adventure Crossings property located on the south side of County Route 537 between the Interstate 195 corridor and the Hurricane Harbor Water Park.
The original ordinance 244-57.2 permitted residential uses other than detached single-family dwellings with the "maximum number of dwelling units is four units per gross acre, including affordable units."
Prior to the 2024 election season in which Jackson Township Councilman Mordy Burnstein was in the hot seat, the Council voted to modify this to permit "four units per acre dedicated to residential use." At the time, the Council claimed that this vote will "stop 1,200 residential units from getting built at Adventure Crossings."
This "heroic vote" was massively touted by the Council in their subsequent 2024 election season.
Nonetheless, shortly after elections were over with Mordy Burnstein securing reelection by a mere 200 votes, then-Council President Jennifer Kuhn admitted live on camera that Adventure Crossing submitted their plans for 1,200 residential units prior to the Council's bold introduction of their "anti over-development" ordinance, and therefore their plan for 1,200 residential units is "protected."
Despite this concession after last year's election season, during the recent 2025 election season, the Council again shamelessly flaunted their "vote to stop 1,200 homes from getting built at Adventure Crossing."
Now that election season has come and gone, the Council this week admitted in a court filing that - conveniently just after elections - they formally voted to repeal their heroic vote to stop 1,200 votes!
The Council previously informed the court prior to election day that they intend to vote to repeal their previous actions. At the time when asked for explanation, Council President Burnstein flatly denied any such move. However, the Township's court filing this week - obtained and reviewed by FAA News - confirms they quietly repealed the ordinance change just after elections were over.
