IS LAKEWOOD ASSEMBLYMAN AVI SCHNALL NOW AN “INSIDER” FOR ONE OF THE STATE’S MOST POWERFUL LOBBYING GROUPS?

A major leadership announcement from Agudath Israel of America on Wednesday evening is raising eyebrows in political circles in New Jersey.

Agudah Chairman Sol Werdiger announced that Lakewood Assemblyman Avi Schnall has been appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the organization.

The appointment places a sitting New Jersey legislator in a senior leadership role at one of the most active lobbying organizations.

Before entering the Legislature, Schnall himself served as Agudah’s New Jersey state director, where he was deeply involved in the organization’s lobbying work. He resigned from that position upon accepting the oath of office of assemblyman.

Now, with Schnall returning to Agudah’s leadership while simultaneously serving as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly, some observers are asking whether the move effectively places a well-connected Trenton insider inside the leadership of a major lobbying organization with significant interests before the state government.

The dual roles inevitably raise questions about how the lines will be drawn between Schnall’s responsibilities as an elected official and his leadership position within an organization actively engaged in lobbying.

Sounds pretty corrupt. But the truth is aguda is a dead organization. It was a big deal when it started but now its nothing. Zweibel and werdiger need to wake up and just shut it down.

It’s a legit concern besides the fact that one of his positions is likely to take 2nd place and will suffer because of that they are both full time plus positions not a 9-3 job but a 24-7 job can’t see how one can do both??
