LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP HOLDS ANNUAL REORGANIZATION MEETING

Lakewood's Township Committee held their annual reorganization meeting today.

With no changes on the horizon in Lakewood, there was not much reorganizing as not a whole lot actually changed around.

The meeting opened with Committee Member Albert Akerman being sworn in for the 3 year term that he easily won in the general election in November.

The Committee voted Ray Coles for mayor, and Menashe Miller for deputy mayor. This is their 7th consecutive year in these positions.

Secare & Hensel was easily re-awarded their annual $600,000 General Counsel and Labor Counsel contracts. No other legal firm submitted a proposal for the position. "We really appreciate this and we don't take this for granted," stated Secare.

Remington & Vernick Engineers were reappointed Township Engineer. The Township received 4 proposals for this position.

New for this year, Lakewood-based NewLines Engineering was awarded planners for special projects, along with Remington & Vernick Engineers, T&M Consultants, and Colliers Engineering DBA Maser Consultants.

Ian Goldman and Leib Klein were reappointed Municipal Prosecutor and Public Defender, respectively.

Laura Halm, Esq of Rothstein, Mandell, Strohm and Halm was reappointed Alternate Township Tax Appeal Attorney.

Sean Kean Esq of Clearly, Giacobbe, Alfieri, Jacobs; Laura Halm, Esq of Rothstein, Mandell, Strohm and Halm; and Chris Dasti Esq were reappointed Special Township Counsels. Sean Gertner Esq used to hold these positions as well. As he was recently appointed a State Superior Court judge position, he is no longer providing legal services to Lakewood Township.

Multiple members of the public submitted public comments asking why Township Committee continue to be held virtually. They noted that specifically holding meetings virtually affirms a recent report by Lakewood Alerts that Committeeman Mike D'Elia is physically unwell enough to attend meetings in person.

Mayor Coles responded that by holding the meeting virtually, public participation has actually become easier as the public is now permitted to submit comments by email in advance of the meeting or during the meeting without needing to come in person to the municipal building.
