FRIDAY: BLACK FRIDAY - TOWNSHIP OFFICES ARE CLOSED

Friday, November 24, coincides with Black Friday 2023.

Black Friday is neither a federal holiday, nor a state holiday. It is an annual shopping event that takes place the day after Thanksgiving. Additionally, certain government offices are closed.

Lakewood municipal offices will be closed.

All New Jersey state offices, including courts and Motor Vehicle Commission offices will be open.

Federal courts in New Jersey, however, will be closed on Black Friday.

United States Postal Service offices will be open. There will be regularly scheduled mail delivery, as well as FedEx and UPS on Black Friday. The lone exception is FedEx Freight, which is closed. FedEx Express is also operating on a modified schedule.

All banks will be open.

As Black Friday is considered the biggest shopping event of the year, most retail stores will be open and offering massive savings for the holidays. Some may be opening very early so shoppers can take advantage of doorbuster sales.

NJ Transit trains will run on a weekend/holiday schedule with extra rail service on select lines during the morning and evening peak periods. Meanwhile, bus schedules will vary by route.

The HBLR and River Line Light Rail will operate on a weekday schedule, and the Newark Light Rail will run on Saturday schedule. Riders should use NJ Transit’s online trip planner to double-check arrival and departure times.

SEPTA will operate on normal schedules. PATH will operate with a modified weekday schedule with all four lines running every 10 minutes during daytime and early evening hours.

Stock markets, including the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and bond markets will be open on Black Friday. However, the NYSE and Nasdaq will close early at 1 p.m. while bond markets will close early at 2 p.m.

The next federal holiday is Christmas Day on Monday, December 25.
