FAA News regrets to share the news of the petirah of Rav Matisyahu Chaim Salomon, the long time venerable mashgiach ruchani of the Beth Medrash Govoha Yeshiva in Lakewood.
Born and raised in Gateshead, England, Rav Salomon served as mashgiach ruchani of Gateshead Yeshiva for more than 30 years.
In the spring of 1998, Rabbi Salomon moved to Lakewood and accepted the position of mashgiach ruchani in BMG.
Rav Mattisyahu was well known in the Ihr Hatorah for advocating tirelessly for "schools for all children." Under his direction, for numerous years, all girls high schools were prohibited from opening until every single girl was accepted into a school.
He was also known in the greater yeshiva world as a lecturer on topics relating to Jewish religious growth and communal issues.
The mashgiach was niftar after suffering from a years-long illness.
The levaya, which is still in the planning stages, is expected to draw a crowds of tens of thousands.
