NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL GOING UP ON COUNTY LINE ROAD AT LAKEWOOD / JACKSON BORDER

Ocean County officials are hard at work bringing traffic safety improvements to the West County Line Road / Brookwood Parkway intersection at the Lakewood / Jackson border.

As part of this project, a new traffic signal was installed a few days ago.

At completion, the project will include installation of an eastbound left turning lane from County Line Road onto Brookwood Parkway. The new traffic signal will include a left turning arrow to provide 10-13 seconds for protected lead left turns. Additionally, guide lines will be striped to assist left turning traffic to ensure no one crashes into the median boulevard.

A right turning arrow will be installed on Brookwood Parkway to keep that traffic flowing while County Line Road traffic has protected left turns.

As previously reported here on FAA News, back in January 2023, the Ocean County Board of Commissioners awarded the contract for this project to J.C. Contracting for $338,877.

The just installed traffic signal is likely to go live in another few months once all the other prerequisite work is complete.

The Ocean County Board of Commissioners has also awarded a contract for a new traffic signal at the intersection of Hope Chapel Road / Miller Road in Lakewood.

The project includes relocation of curb, sidewalk, and utilities including new fire hydrants and drainage system improvements. This works appears to be currently underway.

Back in January 2023, the Ocean County Board of Commissioners awarded the contract for this project to Earle Asphalt Company for $1,143,513.13.

County Line Road is a continuing priority for the county’s engineering department.

The County previously widened the County Line Road/ Brook Road intersection with left turning lanes on all approaches. That $1,625,202.67 project included installation of associated drainage basin on Brook Road to collect the water runoff that will be caused by the additional impervious coverage of the new travel lanes. New curbing was also installed along Brook Road.

More recently, the County installed a new traffic signal at County Line Road/ Teaberry Court. That $267,521.60 project included an eastbound left turning lane.

County officials are also planning major improvements to the intersections of Ridge Avenue and Joe Parker as well. The Ocean County Board of Commissioners has approved funding for that project. The project has not yet gone out to bid.

As previously reported here on FAA News, using federal funds, Ocean County and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority have commenced on a comprehensive study to bring long-term major traffic improvements to address congestion and safety along portions of both Kennedy Boulevard and County Line Road.

This will be a multi-year long project.
