LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP SECURES STATE APPROVAL TO REPLACE ASPHALT SIDEWALK ALONG RIDGE AVENUE WITH CONCRETE

Back in September 2022, as previously reported here on FAA News, Lakewood Township's Department of Public Works installed curb, ADA-compliant curb cuts, and sidewalk along both sides of Ridge Avenue, from Shemen Street to Lanes Mill Road, including in front of Yeshiva Netzach Hatorah.

At the time, the Township only installed a temporary asphalt walkway as a concrete sidewalk in this area required a Freshwater Wetlands permits from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

As installation of the temporary walkway was underway, the Township Committee also awarded a $410,500 contract to Colliers Engineering and Design to procure the Freshwater Wetlands permits, as well as for the survey and design work for this project.

The contract includes preparation of the bid specification, advertising, accepting, reviewing and recommending an award for the bid as well as for the supervision of the construction.

This contract will be funded by a CDBG grant. CDBG funds are federal grants that municipalities across the country receive annually from U.S. Housing and Urban Development for a wide range of community development activities directed toward revitalizing neighborhoods, economic development, and providing improved community facilities and services.

The DEP has just now approved the Freshwater Wetlands permits. Township officials are expected to soon begin soliciting bids to replace the temporary asphalt with a concrete sidewalk.
