LAKEWOOD PLANNING BOARD GRANTS WAIVER FROM INSTALLING SIDEWALK ALONG LANES MILL ROAD

Remember all those times we were promised "no more sidewalk waivers?"

Oh well. Promises made, promises not kept.

On Tuesday night, Lakewood Township's Planning Board granted Change of Use/ Site Plan Exemption to Yeshiva Ber Hatalmud to convert the use of 1860 Lanes Mill Road into a Bais Medrash yeshiva for 40 students.

Per the preliminary architectural plans, the existing structures will be converted into a Bais Medrash and classroom. The existing asphalt parking lot will be restriped to provide 5 regular and 1 ADA accessible parking space.

Curb and sidewalk do not exist along the Lanes Mill Road frontage.

The yeshiva's engineer Brian Flannery requested that the Board grant design waivers so they not be required to install curbing and sidewalk. He argued that there is no sidewalk along the adjoining property either...

Famous last words.

After no member of the public spoke up regarding the application, the Board approved the application along with the requested design waivers.

Township officials have claimed over and over again that they have directed the Planning Board to not grant any sidewalk waivers "with no exceptions."

Oh well.

Somehow this one simply "slipped through."

As previously reported here on FAA News, just weeks ago, the Board granted a sidewalk waiver at 770 Joe Parker Road - which is just around the corner from this Lanes Mill Road application.

They clearly do not care about the pedestrians which are sure to start walking there soon. And then the township will be forced to spend the money for it instead of spending it on other necessities.
