In Lakewood, the Zoning Board kvetches and shouts - not at actual developers, but rather - at the attorneys and engineers who apparently "do the job" (of taking the yelling) for hire.
At their recent public hearing, the Board reviewed an application submitted by MM Wagner Irrevocable Trust for a single family home on Williams Street.
The lot is significantly undersized and therefore the application sought several bulk variances including from providing the minimum required front yard setback, the minimum required aggregate sideyard setback, and the maximum allowable building coverage.
The Board gasped loudly when they realized that the architectural plans attempted to rename the bedrooms in the basement into "sewing room, media room, art room, and rec. room."
The Board yelled loudly that this was a ploy to sneak away from providing parking spaces which are required based on "bedrooms."
The Board kvetched and yelled loudly - straight at Attorney Miriam Weinstein and Engineer Brian Flannery who apparently earned their pay.
Best of all, once the Board was all done yelling... they cheerfully approved the application!
What a night, indeed.

Disgusting acting performance by the zoning board. They gave off the impression that they weren't going to approve this scam, and took the wind out of the people who were getting up to speak to oppose it, who were going to give reasons to deny the application. Instead they congratulated the board for standing up for not allowing the engineer to get away with another one of his deceitful disguised plans to trick the board per usual just to get an approval.
Shame on the Zoning board chairman for putting on his act to try and out do the performance of the Flannery & Weinstein duet.
