WHY IN THE WORLD?? LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP REFUSED OCEAN COUNTY'S OFFER TO INSTALL BATTERY BACKUPS IN TRAFFIC SIGNALS!

The recent power outages in Lakewood created a massive demand on our police department and Office of Emergency Management member agencies who were overwhelmed with directing traffic at major intersections where the traffic signals were not working.

Crazy thing is.... All that should not have been needed as Ocean County officials previously offered to install battery backup systems and generator switches in our traffic signals - however, Lakewood officials were simply uninterested in the offer!

County officials first reached out to all municipalities in the County in September 2020 (after Tropical Storm Isaias) to offer the battery backup systems. Most municipalities responded affirmatively and received the systems.

The County again reached out to the Township in July 2024.

Our Township officials simply didn't care to bat an eyelash.

Remember: While they are pointing one finger at JCP&L, they are really pointing three fingers back at themselves.
