FINALLY! FOLLOWING EXPOSURE ON FAA NEWS, LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP TO ACCEPT OCEAN COUNTY'S OFFER TO INSTALL BATTERY BACKUPS IN TRAFFIC SIGNALS

Weather-related power outages in Lakewood create a massive demand on our police department and Office of Emergency Management member agencies who need to deal with directing traffic at major intersections where the traffic signals are not working.

As previously exposed here on FAA News, Ocean County officials have actually offered to install battery backup systems and generator switches in our traffic signals, however, Lakewood officials simply didn't care to bat an eyelash.

Following this serious exposure, Township officials are finally set this Thursday to enter into an agreement for County officials for installation of traffic signals with bypass generators.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Township and the County will share the cost of the traffic signal upgrades for 49 traffic signals. The Township’s fair share for the installation is $235,947.40. It will be the Township’s sole responsibility to purchase, supply and maintain all generators.
